Lemons are dotted around many gardens in Australia and New Zealand. There must have been a sale on them in the 80’s or something! Lemons grow easily here and have made the Lemon Pie very popular but did you know how beneficial lemons can be to your diet?
I personally have it just like this – picture to your left. A big chunky slice in some hot water. Just keep adding hot water to it all day and sip on it all day! It is delicious and sooooo good for you. The lemons in the background are real lemons picked off a lemon tree in New Zealand – yes they are abit rough but they are so much juicer than the ones you buy!
Having Endometriosis we suffer from many side-effects and our friend the lemon combats almost all of them!
•Helps with Digestion
Nausea is a sign of eating something that has not agreed with your digestion and your liver. It is usually caused by eating something greasy or fatty. By having a cup with hot lemon it will help your digestion as you will activate the liver to work at it’s optimum and get rid of that horrible nausea feeling. It is great at that time of the month as it is great drunk as a warming drink and beats the nausea all at once!
Many people opt for lemon sorbet to help digestion but hot is always better for us than cold foods.
•Help your bladder
It is a diuretic and will help clean out urinary tract infections and high uric acid problems, such as arthritis and rheumatism. It flushes out toxins and bad bacteria.
•Headaches and migraines
Add lemon juice to coffee (I know it sounds horrible!) but this is known to cure a headache and even cure malaria! The coffee creates a rush of blood to the forehead and by sending the lemon along with it, it will clear the headache or migraine that is sitting there. A lemon balm can also be made which is good for breaking fevers.
•Hay fever and high mucus
Hay fever and a high level of mucus are quite common in Endometriosis sufferers. It is part of our low immune system! Lemon can really reduce that strong flemmy feeling and can help the hay fever. I was struggling with hay fever again after living with some cute cats and haven’t had any symptoms since drinking lemon twice a day!
Little side benefit: Lemons used on the skin will help heal any scarring you may have! Great bacterial as well!
So, go and get a lemon tree cos you can find every use under the sun to do it!
